Blockchain Speakers Interview Series
The Blockchain Expo conference arrived in Santa Clara on 28-29 November 2018. The conference featured notable experts exploring the industries set to be disrupted the most by blockchain technology.
Introducing Vincent Romney
Vincent Romney is a 20+ year veteran in cybersecurity. He sees through the lenses of a former military cyber operator, civilian network defender, and cybersecurity product architect. In the past year he’s successfully built security programs for billion-dollar enterprises including Younique Products (a COTY company). Further, he’s been the senior cybersecurity analyst for the USAF Ground Based Strategic Deterrent program (with BAE Systems), and currently has three patents for session-based data-at-rest encryption technology with SK2Tech, LLC.
How was your talk meaningful for Blockchain Expo attendees?
“I exposed the differences between the concept of blockchain security and IT security, and frequently the lack of common security protocols being applied in the blockchain space. I also debunked the common myths surrounding cybersecurity and told the audience how to improve their odds of spending their security dollars wisely… and avoiding total pwnge (being taken advantage of).”
What specific tips or insights did attendees get?
“I gave the audience insights into the realities of cyber-threats facing blockchain and traditional companies. I also gave them the viewpoint of the threat-actors that the modern enterprise faces based on my experience in the military during offensive cyber actions. And I told them how to evaluate the security of a potential partner or acquisition.”
Why did you decide to give this talk?
“Cybersecurity is pivotal to the success of any technology. Blockchain is no different. Despite the security designed into the blockchain itself, the industry is rife with examples of how poor security hygiene resulted in massive breaches and financial loss. I’m passionate about moving the industry forward by promoting security.”
