Blockchain Speakers Interview Series
The Blockchain Expo conference arrived in Santa Clara on 28-29 November 2018. The conference featured notable experts exploring the industries set to be disrupted most by blockchain technology.
Introducing Josh Lawler
Josh Lawler leads the New Technology Group at Zuber Lawler & Del Duca, with a particular emphasis on Blockchain (distributed ledger) and artificial intelligence and related technologies. In this capacity, Mr. Lawler counsels clients in respect securities and regulatory matters, including in respect of ICO/TGE projects; Mergers and Acquisitions; and development, licensing, commercial use, acquisition and disposition of all manner of intellectual property.
How was your talk meaningful for Blockchain Expo attendees?
“Our panel was instructive for token issuers and investors as both a review and discussion of recent regulatory actions. This included what they mean for future practical application as well as logistical matters relevant to the sale and exchange of tokens.
For both issuers and purchasers of tokens who didn’t attend our conference and still do not avail themselves of expert counsel could face create catastrophic regulatory problems. This can potentially result in the unwinding of a token issuance and even jail time.”
What specific tips or insights did attendees get?
“Panel attendees received current information to aid them (along with expert counsel) in navigating some of the difficult issues inherent in the new token asset class. For example, all tokens and coins are not the same. Very different law may apply depending on the applicable use case and distribution dynamics. My best tip is, “get good counsel involved early.”
Why did you decide to give the talk?
“To the extent possible, I wanted to clear up the FUD surrounding regulatory requirements applicable to token issue. I’d also wanted to communicate the need for effective, innovative and informed legal counsel. Our firm hopes to foster the continued orderly growth of application of distributed ledger technology across industry and geography.”
