Blockchain Speakers Interview Series
The Blockchain Expo conference arrives in Santa Clara on 28-29 November 2018. The conference features notable experts exploring the industries set to be disrupted most by blockchain technology.
Introducing Ethan Pierse
Ethan Pierse is currently the Director of the CryptoAssets Institute, advising government regulators, corporations and investment funds on blockchain adoption and regulation as well as tokenized securities. Further, he is co-founder of DESICO, an EU-regulatory compliant platform for issuing Security Token Offerings that can also include up to €5 million per year per project from retail/Main Street investors. In the past, Ethan was Managing Partner of Asia’s Nest Venture Capital, and serial entrepreneur in digital marketing and ecommerce.
How will your talk be meaningful for Blockchain Expo attendees?
“My talk will be meaningful for the audience because it focuses on the new way for startups to get funding – the STO. The Security Token Offering (STO) is basically ICO 2.0. What makes it better is that it creates enormous opportunities in financing for small and medium sized companies. It can do this through new business models around fractional ownership into real estate, intellectual properties and fungible commodities like gold or diamonds. In many cases Utility Tokens were used as get rich quick schemes. Security Tokens are about financing scalable business models based on reality and actual assets.”
What specific tips or insights will attendees get?
“I’ll explain several different categories of tokenized securities, like equities and revenue or profit sharing models. We’ll look at how those can be used to finance blockchain-focused startups, other types of startups, and small and medium sized businesses (SMEs). We’ll also see how this creates interesting new business models around fractional ownership of real estate and intellectual property. We’ll close by looking at some of the current problems with STOs and how those will be solved.”
What is date and time of your panel?
“The keynote for Security Token Offerings: Tokenized Securities and the Future of Investment is at 2pm on November 29th on the Investors and Innovation stage as well as again at 4:10pm on the Cryptocurrency & Financial Services stage. (A keynote speaker was unable to attend and the organizers asked me if I’d like to also present the keynote to a different audience).
If interested, I’m also participating in the Future of Crypto Finance panel at 12:20pm on the Cryptocurrency & Financial Services stage with Glenn Gow from Clear Ventures, Mikhail Gurevich from AltLending and Daniel Cawrey from Pactum Capital.”
Why did you decide to give this talk?
“I spoke at the Blockchain Expo in London this spring and found it to be an excellent event, not only for the speakers that I met but also the quality of the audience for my CryptoAssets Economy keynote. As the primary mission of the CryptoAssets Institute is to democratize the blockchain economy, this is the perfect opportunity that I look for to share the incredible potential of tokenized securities and the future of investment.”
